FAQ
Where do I use my card in the LRT-2 station?
The new LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstiles accept the U Money Visa card for contactless payment.
How do I use my card at the LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstile?
Simply tap your U Money Visa card on the contactless logo on the turnstile. Once the light at the top of the gate turns green, push the turnstile to enter or exit.
Please remember to use your U Money Visa card at both your entry and exit stations to ensure accurate fare calculation.
What happens if my card doesn’t work at the gate?
Look for the wave or contactless symbol on your U Money Visa card. If your card fails to be read at the gate, please contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772) for assistance.
The screen displayed “Expired Card” on the screen when I tapped my U Money Visa Card. What should I do?
Please ensure you are tapping an active U Money Visa card. If your card is expired, blocked, or has not yet been activated, please contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772) for assistance.
Can more than one person ride by tapping the same card more than once?
No. You cannot tap your U Money Visa card multiple times on turnstiles or readers to pay for multiple people in the same group. The LRT-2 system uses each tap to track individual journeys and calculate fares, so every passenger is required to have their own card.
Will I be charged multiple times when I ride the train more than once in one day?
No. When you tap your U Money Visa card at LRT-2, the card will perform a temporary verification, but your fare will not be deducted immediately. Instead of charging you for every individual ride, we track all your trips throughout the day and consolidate them into a single charge at the end of the day.
I only saw one charge for all my trips in one day. Where can I see the breakdown of the fares that were charged to me?
For the breakdown of your fares, you can visit the Passenger Assistance Office at any station and speak with the LRTA personnel.
Alternatively, you may call the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772). To help us investigate quickly, please include the details of your trips (e.g., card used, journey date, entry and exit stations). We will get back to you within 3 banking days.
The screen displayed “Blacklisted Card” when I tapped my U Money Visa card. What should I do?
Your U Money Visa card was temporarily suspended because the payment for your previous ride was declined by U Money. To ensure your card is still active and has sufficient balance, please contact U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772)
Once your card is already active, you can try tapping again after 1 hour. Please note that your next successful tap will include the outstanding fare from your previous unpaid ride.
I accidentally tapped out using a different card or device. What will happen?
If you switch cards, both cards will be charged the maximum fare. It’s important that you use the exact same card or device to tap in and tap out.
If you were mistakenly charged, please contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772) to request a fare correction.
My card was accepted by the gate but the turnstile did not open. What should I do?
If your U Money Visa card fails to be read at the turnstile, please report it to the station staff to verify if your tap was recorded in the system.
- If your tap was successfully recorded at entry or exit, the station staff will assist you through the service gate.
- If this happens at entry, you can proceed to travel and tap out as usual at your destination.
- If your tap was NOT recorded, you may try tapping your card a second time. If it still fails:
- At entry, report to the station staff. You will be encouraged to use the standard gate instead.
- At exit, approach the staff so they can let you out through the service gate. Show the card that you used to enter so the station staff can record your exit. Your card will be charged the maximum fare but we will post an adjustment within 3 banking days. If you do not see the adjustment within 3 banking days, please contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772) for assistance.
Why was I charged an additional Php 15.00 to my fare?
You were charged a ₱15.00 overstaying fee. This charge is automatically applied if you remain inside the train network for more than 120 minutes before tapping out at your exit station
Why is the transaction description reflected on my U Money app or Statement of Account different?
U Money may have updated or added details to the original transaction description processed by Visa, making it look different on your statement.
There was a train breakdown or emergency at the station where I tapped to enter. Will I still be charged?
No. Due to a train breakdown or emergency, your card will not be charged.
If you were charged a maximum fare because you were unable to tap out, please expect an adjustment within 3 business days. If the charge is not reversed after 3 business days, please report it to the Passenger Assistance Office at any station or contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772).
I lost my U Money Visa Card before I exited the station. How can I exit?
Immediately report your card as lost to U Money so we can block it.
Please report the issue to the station staff and they will assist you through the service gate. If you can remember your U Money Visa card number, please provide it to the station staff so they can verify your entry and record your exit. Your U Money Visa card will be charged the maximum fare but expect an adjustment within 3 banking days.
If you cannot provide your card number to the station staff, we will not be able to adjust your fare.
I tapped my card but failed to enter immediately. When I tapped my card again, the screen displayed “Card Already Accepted”. What should I do?
Double-tapping the same U Money Visa card at the turnstile in less than 5 minutes is not allowed. If you failed to enter/exit after tapping in/out, approach the station staff to verify if your tap in/out was recorded.
- If your tap was successfully recorded at entry or exit, the station staff will assist you through the service gate.
- If this happens at entry, you can proceed to travel and tap out as usual at your destination.
- If your tap was NOT recorded: You may try tapping your card a third time after 5 minutes
The exit gate at my destination was wide open. Can I just pass through without tapping out?
If you exit without tapping out, you will be charged the maximum fare.
If the exit gate is wide open, report it to the station staff and present the card that you used to enter. The station staff will record your card and exit station and let you through the service gate. As your exit is manually recorded, you will be charged the maximum fare but expect an adjustment on your account within 3 banking days.
Contactless Transit Acceptance FAQ
Why are transit payments different from normal contactless transactions?
Public transit payments, like at the LRT-2, have a very high number and speed of transaction required in busy stations and require bespoke, unattended terminal and network infrastructure.
For these contactless transactions, no signature or PIN capture is required. The final charge or transit fare is not known at the point the card is presented.
What does a U Money Visa cardholder do at a LRT-2 station?
As a U Money Visa cardholder, you simply tap their card at the transit gate instead of using a closed-loop transit card or ticket:
- There is no need to get in line at a kiosk or ticket office window.
- There is no need to pre-register to pay for journeys.
- There is no need to download an app or obtain a transit card or ticket in advance of travel.
What else do I need to know about LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstiles?
The LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstiles are unattended contactless-only terminals that will provide basic feedback if the tap is unsuccessful. They display the Contactless Symbol, and acceptance logos, at the point of acceptance.
Is there transaction control for the U Money Visa card?
You may use a transaction control feature which is found in the U Money app to restrict card usage in a contactless environment.
To avoid any inconvenience, U Money Visa cardholders should always remember to turn on their contactless feature when they wish to use their contactless product on the LRT-2 line.
Can the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) clear a declined authorization request?
When the LRTA receives a decline response for a mass transit transaction, the LRTA may submit a clearing record for applicable transactions in accordance with Visa and U Money rules
What if I believe that I was charged the incorrect fare or do not understand the descriptor on my billing card statement?
The LRTA are permitted to accumulate transactions for up to 24 hours, so you may be charged the accumulation of several individual rides. You may not see any charges on their statement until the transit agency has completed end-of-day processing. The transaction date supplied by the LRTA should match the day you travelled on the LRT-2 line.
For any questions about your U Money Visa card charges, please contact the U Customer Service Hotline at (+632) 8928-USSC (8772) for assistance.
What if you present multiple contactless cards to the term when tapping to pay fare?
The terminal should reject the transaction if it detects multiple contactless capable cards or payment-enabled devices in the field. In rare occurrences multiple cards may be presented but only one is detected in the field. In this case, you may not be aware which card has been charged.
We advise you to have the U Money Visa card on hand and separate that from other forms of contactless payment before presenting it to the terminal. This also reduces the chance that other cards may be read by the terminal at entry and exit.
Do U Money Visa cardholders need to enroll their card with the transit agency before riding?
No. Cardholders can simply Tap to Ride right at the transit gate or on board a bus.
How can you get a receipt?
Through the LRTA, you have access to all the following information for a minimum of 120 days following the Transaction Date:
- Merchant name
- Total transaction amount in the transaction currency
- Details of each individual journey completed during the travel period (e.g., each trip during a day)
- Transaction date
- Any discounts applied
The LRTA will support transaction inquiries by providing you with online access to their travel history, including information from tap data captured and charges made to the card.
